What is a Porteño?

A porteño is a person from the city of Buenos Aires. The word comes from puerto — port — and has been used for generations to describe the people, culture and particular way of seeing life that developed around this city.

But being a Porteño is more than knowing the streets. It is knowing which neighborhood changes character after a few blocks, when a price sounds wrong, which places locals actually choose, how things really work and when the obvious tourist answer is not necessarily the best one.

Ask a Porteño was created around that idea: local context from people who live here, so visitors can make better decisions while discovering Buenos Aires.
